Otis was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on the 30th of May 2016; He is required to undergo chemotherapy treatment every week for the next 6-8 months. Once the first phase has successfully been completed, Brea (Otis’s gorgeous mum) and Otis will be allowed to come home to their house in Australind. Otis will then commence the second phase of his chemotherapy treatment; he will then require ongoing physiotherapy to regain the full use of his legs and feet. It is a hard road ahead for little Otis but along with his beautiful family Sam, Brea and Baby brother Max he is in the best hands.
This whole process puts an extreme amount of pressure on any family unit in more ways than one. So Gardies Mates have hopped on board and help in any way we can to help make things easier where we can.
Every family has different needs to get though the treatment process. Sometimes it’s in the form of fuel for the travel, fixing their house or even just Christmas presents, whatever will help the family get through the hard times.
Bear in mind when we say “Gardies Mates” that is you! When you buy a ticket to the Race day or go to Gard stock, you are supporting little Otis and his Family in this case. So we thank you.
“5th Feb 2014 was the day my life changed. It was the day Brock came into my life and changed it forever. When Brock was born he suffered a major hypoxic event. Since he was born things have progressed downhill rapidly and he has now been also diagnosed with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, microcephaly, global development delay and recently Lennox - Gastaut syndrome which causes Brock to seizure hundreds of times a day. It has been an extremely long road but one I will never regret. Brock has changed my life forever and taught me more than I could ever imagine. Recently we were given an extremely poor prognosis for Brock by his neurologist and spoken to by his pediatrician who put us in touch with the amazing guys at Gardies Mates. They gave us fuel and food vouchers for our many PMH trips, an iPad each for Brock's big brother and sister (two extremely happy kids) and Ed’s beautiful daughters sent some lovely outfits for Brock's sister, Chloe.
Gardies Mates have also paid for Brock's funeral in advance for me, which touched me so much as they knew it was something I was so worried about paying and stressed daily about it. How was I going to afford to give my beautiful boy the most beautiful send-off I could?... Now I can do that.. Never could I fully express the impact Gardies Mates has had on our lives. They are a bunch of the most caring, beautiful people I've ever met and have touched my heart forever. Love you guys xxx”
